An Employee Path at Diversified

Joshua S., military veteran, reservist, and Diversified Lead AV Technician.

I didn’t know what commercial audio video install was prior to starting with CompView (Now a Diversified company) 5 years ago. Tom Y. introduced me to audio video, after he had gotten to know me, and suggested that I interview with the San Diego office as an Installation Technician. I knew that I could learn the technology because I am a Communications Marine in the Marine Corps and had experience with RF and making communications systems work in combat and field environments, and that I could learn the construction side of A/V because I had worked in general residential construction while getting my BA in General Communication from SDSU.

When I came back from Afghanistan in 2013 I was looking for an occupational field that would suit my capabilities and where I could thrive as a member of a highly skilled team.

I now have multiple certifications and am training junior technicians on how to install cleanly and proficiently. I have a passion for install and installing at a level that is far beyond the expectations of other audio video companies. I hope for future promotion and will continue to strive for excellence in any position that I hold with Diversified.

Installation Technician
Lead A/V Technician
Joshua S.
I became proficient in the installation of video teleconferencing suites, displays, projectors, projector screens, speakers, microphones, touch panels, digital signage, intercom systems, sound masking, video walls and audio/video digital media processing racks.
I also became proficient in the termination of Category 5/6/7 shielded/non-shielded cable with RJ45 connectors or punch down terminals, EtherCons, HD15 connectors, DB9 Connectors, BNC connectors, F-connectors, XLR connectors, and 3.5mm connectors.
I directed junior technicians on job sites, read A/V schematics (wire diagrams, elevations, ceiling plans), submitted RFIs to project managers and/or site contacts, and ensured systems were installed cleanly and functioned properly.
I also commissioned or assisted in the commissioning of audio video systems to verify functionality, programmed basic control systems, and conducted site walks with project managers to ensure cable paths, structural integrity, and that the job site would be cohesive with a sold system.
With strong Lead Installation Technicians as my foremen and a desire to get as much knowledge and education in the A/V industry as I could as fast as I could, I have advanced my career and now lead large and small jobs as a Lead Installation Technician for Audio Video. I now have multiple certifications and am training junior technicians on how to install cleanly and proficiently. I have a passion for install and installing at a level that is far beyond the expectations of other audio video companies. I hope for future promotion and will continue to strive for excellence in any position that I hold with Diversified.
I am also currently serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. I was just selected for Gunnery Sergeant (grade E-7) and will be promoted in the September to October time frame. I have deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and have been in the Marine Corps for 14 years. I am a 0629 Radio Chief (Communications Marine) in the Corps and have held billets such as Communications Chief, Head Quarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, and am currently an Information Fusion Analyst/Operations Chief/ Admin Chief for MCI West G 3/5 Emergency Operations Center at MCB Camp Pendleton.
